You pay us, not the suppliers

Most comparison sites are paid by the companies they recommend. We aren’t. You pay us directly, which is the whole point — it’s why we can tell you to stay put or do nothing when that’s the honest answer. It also means we’ve no reason to sell your data or hand it to anyone. You’re the customer, not the product.

What we take, and why

To check a bill we need to read it — so we take what’s on it: your name, address, account number, what you use, and what you pay. We use it to work out your verdict and to keep watching the market for you. That’s it. We don’t ask for more than the job needs.

Your bill is deleted after 90 days

The original document you upload — the actual bill image or PDF — is automatically deleted 90 days after we’ve read it. We keep the figures we pulled off it while you have an account, because that’s what lets us compare and watch over time. But the document itself doesn’t hang around.

Stored in the EU; read by AI under strict terms

Your data is stored in the EU (Frankfurt). To read your bill, we use an AI model — Anthropic’s Claude — through their business API. We’re upfront about this because it matters: your bill is sent to Anthropic only to extract the figures, it is never used to train any AI model, it’s deleted from their systems within a short window, and the transfer is covered by the EU’s standard contractual clauses — the approved mechanism for handling data outside the EU.

Never sold. Never shared with suppliers.

We don’t sell your data. We don’t share it with the suppliers you’re comparing — they don’t get your details from us. The only companies that touch your data are the ones we genuinely need to run the service (hosting, payments, email, the bill-reading AI), and they’re named in our privacy policy.

Kept secure

Your data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, access is restricted, and each account’s data is walled off from every other. No system is ever perfectly secure, but we treat your bills the way we’d want ours treated.

You’re in control

You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. We’ll do that — with one honest caveat: a few records, like payment and tax records, we’re legally required to keep for a set period, so those we can’t delete on request. Everything else, we can. Email us at privacy@shrewd.ie.
